Stuff Portrait Friday

Fri 08.Sep.2006

I stumbled upon a neat little meme that I think I'll try for a while. Every week Kristie of Random and Odd gives three items to photograph and post in your blog. I'm hoping that it will help me to take more pictures, and to blog more regularly.

This week's subjects are:

  1. Your Freedom
  2. Your Hope
  3. Your Wish

For your appproval I submit:

My Freedom

887

There are two rights guaranteed to you when you join an open source project: the right to fork, and the right to leave. I love that concept.

My Hope

894

I hope I never lose my wonder for the nature right in my own back yard.

My Wish

891

I wish I had a herd that wasn't made of plastic and plush.

Ultimate Shiny Pictures

Sat 22.Apr.2006

I finally got the pictures of the Rotavapor online. The rotavapor was the Ultimate Shiny Lab Equipment that I talked about a while ago. You can see why it is ultimately shiny.

My shoe is broken

Wed 19.Apr.2006

I am very sad. I happened to notice the other day that there is a hole in the bottom of my shoe. I have worn clear through the rubber, and thin flaps of it hang off. I really do like these shoes, and they are otherwise in great shape. I'll have to go shoe shopping before too long. I'm so broke though!

I am also sad because I took a picture of my shoe-holes, and now I can't find my card reader for my camera. Pictures will have to wait.

UPDATE: I found my camera cable, so here is a picture of the offending hole.

I found this image on Wikipedia. Yes I'm addicted to Wikipedia.

New York Aquarium

Mon 10.Apr.2006

I find it interesting that in New York City, people have a tendancy of calling things the "New York --" with total disregard for the rest of the state. Granted, nearly half the state's population does live there, but they do seem blissfully unaware of the other 60% of us up here. That's not what I came to talk about today. I came to talk about sea animals.

Steve had a floor program on April Fools' Day to the New York Aquarium. As usual, he had extra spots and I tagged along. We walked around and looked at all the cool fishes (yes, that is the correct word) and sea mammals. The curved tank walls made me dizzy when I looked through. Makes me wonder how the fish feel about the situation.

I took a few pictures, mostly of an otter bathing itself. There was also Oopa, the fat slut walrus. She laid on a rock for the entire time we were there, flashing her cooter at us. A mere adolescent, she weighs in at over 1300 lbs. The only thing that motivated her to get off her rock was food. I don't mind that she's fat, that's what walruses do. The least she could do is close her legs or something.

I go to Wal*Mart when I’m bored.

I love Wal*Mart. What other store contains as large a variety of incredibly useful and incredibly useless things? I saw beverage warmers for A DOLLAR. A mere dollar could insure that my warm beverages never become cold before I finish with them. They also have socks and pens and milk, and because the one here in Cobleskill is one of the massive 24 hour operations, sausage and produce and other grocery-type items. I can fill my prescription there, get my taxes done at the H&R Block booth, or even get checked out by their on-site optometrist. Yes, my Wal*Mart has an optometrist. Will the wonders never cease?

Actually, my favorite thing about Wal*Mart is the fact that we can do completely random things and not be questioned for it. I'm not sure if it's because the employees have seen so much of it that they don't care, or if they just aren't paying attention, but it never fails to amuse me. For example, Lisselly was demonstrating earlier that she already had a pair of those underwear, only the girls' version, and she was wearing them at that particular moment. This is an important thing to note. Also, I'm not sure she took me seriously when I told her there was going to be a picture of her in her underwear on the internet.

It’s a beautiful rainy windy cloudy day

Fri 24.Mar.2006

Today is absolutely beautiful. It's overcast, breezy, and rainy. I suppose you'd have to live in upstate New York to appreciate it, but this is absolutely gorgeous weather for this time of year. When I walked out the door on my way home from work, it smelled like rain. I love the smell of rain. There were even people outside playing hackey sack. I do believe spring has sprung.

How did Amby spend her day? Like this:

Gallery

I installed Gallery last night, which means it will be much simpler to post photos here, and save me a lot of hassle compared to using flickr. That means once I figure out how I want to style things, I'll be posting more pictures, and more in general.
