Sosua, in a nutshell

Hoy es sabado. Preparamos regresar a Nueva York. We made a pretty good wrap to the trip today. We ate at one more restaurant, took some pictures, and relaxed. Our trip to the grocery store was comforting and disorienting at the same time. Most of the food was familiar, even the same brands, but trying to get an idea of prices was a challenge. It’s one thing to estimate about how much dinner cost in USD, but figuring each item (priced to a hundredth of a peso) was too troublesome. We just shot low in prices and hoped for the best. Honestly I would’ve preferred to get more snacks for the trip back and gotten rid of more pesos. We are planning on taking some back, but it would be nice if it were less than thirty dollars.

We’re leaving around 5 tonight to take one of the last buses to the airport. Our flight leaves at 6:00a on 24 December, but we don’t have any way of getting to Santiago at that time of the morning. We’ll be checking our bags and then seeing about someplace to hunker down until it’s time to board. Since we have a 7 hour layover at JFK, we’re doing lunch with (hopefully) some of Steve’s friends in Chinatown. Jaya, on Baxter St. below Canal, has some amazing food. I’ll be having the Laksa, which is scrumptious but not for the faint of heart.
